Membership
A Lineage Society
National Society of the Sons of the American
Revolution (NSSAR) is a lineage society. This means that each member has
documented his family tree back to an ancestor who supported the cause
of American independence during the years 1774-1783. Men and women who
supported the American cause, in any way, are called patriots.
You have identified/documented a patriot
ancestor
You need to document a potential patriot
ancestor. If you aren't sure whether any of your identified
ancestors qualify as an American Revolutionary War patriot, don't lose
heart. MISSAR chapter members and genealogists are prepared to assist
you with information and provide research advice to you. Contact the
chapter nearest to your home for information and assistance. See the
Chapters page for chapter locations and contacts. Also, see
www.sar.org/Membership for a
wide range of information and assistance.
For membership application assistance see Chapters
page. Contact a MISSAR chapter nearest your home to assist you in
completing the NSSAR application for membership and assembling the
lineage documentation. Upon approval of your application you will enjoy
membership at chapter, MISSAR and NSSAR levels.
